Vanessa Sandre
Vanessa Sandre is filmmaker and performer originally from Brazil and based in Toronto, Canada. Sandre has a Bachelor in Film and a Master in Literature focused on Feminism and Gender Studies. Vanessa has cultivated a diverse career as a screenwriter, producer, director and performer for the last 14 years. As a Latina immigrant and artist, Vanessa is inspired to create and contribute to projects that promote equity, inclusion, and diversity both in front of and behind the camera. She advocates for these through decolonial and intersectional feminist perspectives.
As a writer-director, Vanessa has helmed the award-winning narrative shorts "Nuvem" (Cloud, 2014) and "O Prazer é Todo Meu" (The Pleasure is All Mine, 2023). The latter addresses the taboo subject of female sexuality in old age and is currently on the festival circuit. Premiered at the end of 2023, the film has been selected for 18 festivals worldwide and has won 13 awards.
