Reinier Smit
Reinier is a director, screenwriter and script consultant. He was born and raised in The Netherlands, but for most of his life Reinier has lived in many places all around the world. After spending a decade in the southern part of Africa, Reinier knew what kind of stories he wanted to tell: personal at heart, but universal in its evocation. Thanks to the storytellers he met during his stay who were taught by ancient-old oral traditions Reinier also learnt that form, the way you tell a story, is just as important as the story itself.
After graduating university, where he obtained a masters degree in film studies and in philosophy, Reinier started working in the film industry as a script supervisor. First for Dutch movies and series, later for international productions such as Black Sails (2017), Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018) and Ridley Scotts Raised by Wolves (2020). At the same time Reinier began to write and direct as well. As a screenwriter Reinier has written for the big screen e.g. The The Forgotten Battle (2020) as well as for the small screen. This year two series and one movie will be released on several streaming platforms. As a director Reinier has worked for Dutch television, but also as a second unit director for international series and movies, such as BBCs The Last Post (2017).
Reiniers first short film, The Fighter (2019) shot in South Africa was selected for many international festivals and has won several prizes. With his second short film, HANNAH, Reinier wants to tell a personal story about love and loss. He hopes that HANNAH will resonate with audiences all around the world.
